Word (or Phrase) of the Day: Water Resistant

It is summer and many of us are staying cool by heading to some form of body of water, even if it is an inflatable in the back yard. You’ll likely (and should) be grabbing the sunscreen. Be mindful of the following phrase on the label: “water resistant.”

This means that it will form a temporary protective barrier against water, but will eventually wear down. Look for phrases such as “Water resistant 40” or “Water Resistant 80.” This tells you the length of time you have before reapplying sunscreen.

This is not to be confused with water proof, though often used interchangeably. Because of this, be sure to reapply as directed.

Happy summer!
